DENEL’S T5 MOUNTED GUN MAKES ITS DEBUT

Wednesday, September 18, 2002

As a logical extension of its renowned artillery product range, South Africa’s Denel Group has now developed the T5 155mm truck-mounted artillery gun-howitzer, which is making its debut at the Africa Aerospace & Defence (AAD2002) exhibition in Pretoria (18 to 22 September).

“South Africa is intent on keeping its world-leading position in artillery technologies, and we at Denel therefore continue to invest in our products,” says Denel CEO Flip Botha. “Denel not only improves on current systems, but expands and complements the product range as required by our clients.”

In response to certain client requirements, Denel now fields NATO standard, JBMoU compliant 52-calibre 155mm gun-howitzers, alongside its proven 45-calibre systems, such as the G5 towed and G6 self-propelled systems. With the addition of the T5, Denel now offers self-propelled, towed and mounted 155mm guns all available in either 45 calibre or 52 calibre.

The T5 on display at AAD2002 was developed from the building blocks of the formidable 155mm 45-calibre G5 towed gun.

The T5, jointly developed by Denel’s LIW division and BEML of India, has very specific advantages over competing systems:

· A low angle and direct fire capability;
· A 80° firing arc to the rear while forward and lateral firing is also possible in emergency situations, and
· Ease of deployment and loading.

“With T5 in our product range, Denel’s international clients would have a wider choice in selecting the artillery gun exactly suited to their requirements from our truly world-leading artillery portfolio,” Flip Botha concluded.
